Seattle immigrant protected by Obama arrested

Seattle DACA 'Dreamer' Arrested By ICE Report

A Seattle-area man who was brought to the USA illegally as a child but was protected from deportation under a policy by President Barack Obama is suing the federal government over his arrest and detention last week.

"If not quickly reversed, ICE's arrest of a young immigrant who was granted deferred action could make a travesty of the federal government's promises to DACA grantees across the country, who came to the U.S.as children and are an integral part of our communities", said Omar Jadwat, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Immigrants' Rights Project.

DACA was created as a temporary measure to avoid the deportation of hundreds of thousands of youths who came illegally to America as children with their parents, have lived nearly their entire lives in the USA and are integrated into United States culture.

The Department of Homeland Security said Monday that 680 people were arrested in roundups last week targeting immigrants living illegally in the United States, a figure far below the totals of similar raids conducted under the Obama administration.

A complaint filed by Ramirez's attorneys and obtained by KIRO showed that Ramirez, who has authorization to live and work in the USA under DACA, has been in custody in Tacoma.

On May 5, 2016, his DACA status was renewed a second time.

"Trump has created a culture of chaos within our immigration system", Hincapie said. A Washington State Patrol trooper said Ramirez went 5 miles over the speed limit in Thurston County, and Ramirez listed an Olympia address. In a statement, the organization said Ramirez's arrest appeared to be an "isolated incident and not an indication that ICE is going after DACA recipients".

USA government sanctions Venezuelan vice president for drug trafficking
In a January 31 decree, Maduro granted El Aissami expansive new powers to seize property and approve ministers' budgets. The question is whether President Nicolás Maduro - and Venezuela's fractured political opposition - are ready for that.

The officers had arrived at the home to arrest Ramirez's father, though it was unclear why, according to the Reuters report.

"While the actions themselves follow the kinds of pattern that ICE has been using for a lot of years, the number of people who fit the kind of criteria they're looking for is much much larger than it has been in the past", Barber says.

"Daniel has been in detention now for a couple days, unfairly and unjustly", says Paul Quinones, a Seattle-based DACA recipient himself, says that while in custody, Ramirez has been pressured to sign a confession of gang affiliation.

The Feb. 13 suit, filed in Seattle federal court, claims violation of Ramirez's rights to due process and to be free from unlawful seizure.

Other DACA recipients have been arrested under the Obama administration.

Mark Rosenbaum, one of Ramirez's lawyers, responded that Ramirez "unequivocally denies being in a gang" and that the statement from Richeson is inaccurate. If ICE had evidence that Ramirez is a gang member before arresting him, it should've obtained a warrant. She also says that the acting director of ICE canceled a scheduled meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

As president, Trump has softened his language about dreamers, promising to treat them humanely. But the document says one of the ICE agents replied: "It doesn't matter, because you weren't born in this country". ICE must provide answers and release Daniel immediately.
