Trump and Putin may discuss Russian Federation sanctions during first telephone conversation

Date of Putin's Phone Talks With Trump Not Coordinated Yet- Kremlin Sputnik Aleksey Nikolskyi
A thaw in the Cold War between Russian Federation and the United States is expected after Trump entered the White House.
In a separate appearance on CBS-TV, Conway said Trump and Putin were likely to discuss the fight against Islamic militants and other issues.
Mr. Trump's proposed sanctions-for-nukes deal was a non-starter, but it sent an important signal - the new US administration sees sanctions imposed as punishment for aggression and wrongdoing as bargaining chips that may be traded for something totally unrelated.
"President Trump should remember this when he speaks to Vladimir Putin", McCain concluded.
However, one thing he noted was remarkable regardless of Trump's intentions and negotiation tactics.
The two men, in their first call since Trump's inauguration, also stressed the importance of restoring economic ties between the two countries and of stabilising relations, the Kremlin said. The German source said she would not necessarily follow suit.
In a Thursday interview with Fox News, Trump said improved ties between Moscow and Washington would benefit both countries.

Canada is "Not Concerned" Over Renegotiating NAFTA
Guajardo said negotiations should yield a win-win situation, but Mexico is ready to pull out of the agreement if necessary. Mexico is expected to be among the countries most affected by Trump's trade policies.
Trump has also expressed a willingness to review US sanctions placed on Russian Federation after the country annexed the Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and sanctions placed by former President Obama in his final days in office.
On Friday, Trump himself brushed off questions about the prospects of lifting the sanctions against Russian Federation. "We'll see what happens", Trump said at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
"Mexico with the United States has out-negotiated us and beat us to a pulp through our past leaders", Trump said during his press conference Friday. Removal of those imposed for what the US intelligence community has said was interference in the electoral campaign -through hacking of Democratic websites and spreading of "false news" stories - could be interpreted as compensation from Trump.
But there was no immediate word from the White House or the Kremlin about the topics that were discussed by Trump and Putin.
He has consistently argued that Russian Federation can be a strong ally instead of a strategic ally, saying the two countries could cooperate on counterterrorism in general and rolling back the Islamic State in particular, as well as countering nuclear weapon proliferation.
Mr. Trump may try to style himself as a new Ronald Reagan, the still immensely popular late Republican president who ended the nuclear arms race in the second half of the 1980s, by making a nuclear arms deal with Russian Federation. Trump rolled his eyes and shook his head at a BBC reporter who asked about torture and his proposed Muslim ban.
"Well, if Putin likes Donald Trump, I consider that an asset, not a liability, because we have a disgusting relationship with Russia", Trump said at the January 11 press conference.
The rumor this afternoon is that there's a draft executive order floating around the White House that would lift sanctions unilaterally, in exchange for nothing, although I wonder how anyone could know that from the text of the order itself. "We share the position expressed by President Trump for re-establishing normal relations". That's possible, and it's also possible that we won't.
